According to Dr. Sender Deutsch, "yoga stretches and tones your muscles and joints, and has a positive effect on your entire body. Many of the yoga postures enhance and develop your core strength, while at the same time relaxing your inner soul through slow controlled movements.

"It is a total mind body exercise that lengthens and stretches all of your tight postural muscles enhancing your flexibility, strength and core stability," adds Deutsch, director at SHAPE Health and Wellness Centre on Davenport, which offers yoga and pilates classes.

As the population continues to age, many are in search of a gentler form of exercise to stay fit. And the need for flexibility is more important than ever in order to improve range of motion and decrease the probability of injuries, as well as reduce lower back pain, increase blood circulation and enjoy better posture.
